University Placement Program

The Office of Records and Registration oversees English placement exams, math placement exams and foreign language placement exams.

Incoming freshman must register for a placement exam date when you register for Via. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please email academictestingFREESXU.

Math Placement

All students are required to complete the college-level mathematics course(s) required for their major. We believe that accurate placement of students into courses appropriate for their skill levels is important for academic success at SXU. The results of the Math Placement Exam are for placement purposes only and will not impact your admission to Saint Xavier University.

Once an incoming freshman has registered for Via, they will receive an email notification from the Office of Records and Registration stating if they are required or not required to take the Math Placement Exam. This requirement is based off of high school GPA, intended major and other factors. Students required to take the Math Placement Exam should complete the test at least two weeks prior to their Via session (see exam details in the email from the Office of Records and Registration.) Students that are not required to take the Math Placement Exam have no further steps.

Incoming transfer students will be notified by their advisor if a Math Placement Exam is needed.

To prepare for the Math Placement Exam, you may reviewed any advanced algebra text. Review videos can be viewed at Khan Academy. Check out Algebra I and Algebra II on their site for more information.

You can also check out a free practice test!

Spanish Language Placement
